Most people on this earth are scared of age in one way or another. But the truth is, you are only as old as you think you are. If you are ready to embrace the youthful mindset and become young again, but you don’t know where to begin, try engaging in one of the following activities to get you started.
When you were a child, it was likely you went to hundreds of places which were brand new to you. And these visits were exciting (even if they were just to places like a store) because they were something you hadn’t seen before. The good news is, that the excitement over new places doesn’t decrease with age, we’ve just likely been to most places in our immediate life so we don’t feel that excitement every day.
It’s time to change that. Plan a trip to a new exotic location, or make a reservation at that new restaurant in town. Or you could even just get in your car and drive a new direction you haven’t been before. You’ll be surprised at how excited you feel just from stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Besides just going to a new place, consider picking up or trying a new skill. This could be something as easy as taking a pottery class, or even something as big as enrolling in college to receive that degree you always wanted but never finished.
By learning something new, you will keep your brain in positive mindset known as a growth mindset and this will help you feel worlds younger no matter what you decide to pursue.
There is nothing quite like seeing the world through the innocent eyes of a child. And though most people forget this world view as they age, just spending time with children can help you feel more positive on your outlook on life. Plus, kids are often known to say the most hilarious things. So next time your neighbor is looking for someone to watch her kids for an hour while she heads to the store, consider volunteering, you might find you enjoy it.
Our physical age closely resembles our mental age. This is why it is absolutely critical to take steps to maintain physical fitness as we age. In the modern era, there are so many different ways in which to stay fit, don’t feel like you have to go for a run or join a local gym. Instead, you can pick up a physically demanding hobby like gardening, or perhaps join a local hiking group. You’ll be surprised at how much younger you feel just from regular physical activity, and you’ll probably feel more positive as you meet new friends too.
This is perhaps the most important step of all. As we age, we sometimes get caught up in taking care of others—such as our spouses, children, or ageing parents. But in order for you to remain mentally and physically young, taking care of yourself is also necessary.
No matter how busy you may be, make sure you take a few minutes out of your day to do something you love. And then every now and then, take a day off from those around you and do an activity which helps you relax, whether this is a spa retreat, or even just a trip to the coffee shop with your favorite book. You’ll be surprised at how much having a little time to yourself boosts your moral and mental health.
Overall, age is just a number, and once you realize that, sky is the limit as long as you keep yourself in a positive mindset. So, go out and try new things, learn a new skill, and spend time taking care of yourself, and you’ll soon be feeling, and acting, younger than your age.
